What is Martyn's Law?

Following the bombing at Manchester arena in 2017 Martyn's Law has been introduced to improve protective security and organisational preparedness at public and private venues across the UK.

 

Martyn's Law requires, those responsible for certain premises and events to consider the terrorist risk and how they would respond to an attack.

 

It has been named, 'Martyn's Law' after Martyn Hett who was killed alongside 22 others.

Types of Venue That Will Be Effected By Martyn's Law

The following categories of venues have been specified by the government as needing to take take direct action to counter terrorism threats if they exceed a capacity of 100 people.

How Martyn's Law Effects Your Business

All venues and events are divided in two tiers; standard and enhanced duty premises.

Venues with a capacity of over 800 people will be place in the enhanced tier. All other venues, with a capacity of at least 100 people, will be placed in the standard tier.

Premises in the enhanced tier will have to show how they intend to counter terrorism threats whilst people are on that premises.
